Education, Propagation Classes At Hill Country

    Propagation information sheet

NOTE: See above PDF for more information

Learn how to grow plants from cuttings.

Due to the fun and success of our introductory propagation classes in the past, we are offering them again. The class is given by Andrea Sanger. Please read the following information on what to bring and what to expect. Then, if your ready to participate, call us or sign up in person at The Nursery during business hours on a “first come first serve” basis. We like to limit classes to 10 persons per date.
CLASS LOCATION? Our Propagation Greenhouses. They are the center 2 greenhouses in the middle of our 10 connected greenhouses. On arrival, go directly to the propagation greenhouses.
WHAT TO WEAR? Work clothes. This is a hands on class. We get dirty.
$10.00 MATERIALS FEE A very nominal material fee of $10 will be collected at the class in our Propagating Greenhouses when class starts. Exact cash or a check payable to Schumacher’s is desirable as we cannot make change in the greenhouse.
YOUR OWN SNIPS Scissors or small snips are better than big pruning shears.
WHAT TO EXPECT Expect about an hour of interactive verbal instruction with examples and samples related to successful Plant Propagation with emphasis directed to “Softwood Cuttings Under Mist” as practiced at The Nursery. Note taking is not needed. Recordings and photography are not desirable. All participants will receive their own cutting flat complete with rooting media, ready for cuttings. This is a hands on class and you will be rooting your own cuttings. The 72 cell cutting flat with whatever cuttings you have taken is yours. Your flat with cuttings will be placed on our rooting tables under mist along side The Nurseries crops and will receive the same care; Not better, Not worse. From experience, participants have excellent success. You are welcome to bring some cuttings or seeds from home you want try to grow. You are free to take your cuttings home once they are rooted. Two weeks should be close to the time needed for rooting this time of year. Cuttings not claimed after 30 days will become Nursery property. Let’s see what we can grow!
